Full Day Niah Cave

Pick up at hotel lobby around 8.30 am in the morning and proceeds to Niah for a 1 ½ hrs drives.  Niah National Park is situated about 109km from Miri.  It encompasses 3,140 hectares of forest and limestone.
Upon arrival at Niah National Park Headquarters,   register at the registration office. Then cross the   Niah River by a small boat and followed by 3km
plankwalk leads you through the ropical rainforest
to the caves.

The whole cave system which includes the Great Cave, Painted Cave and the Trader’s Cave were declared a National Historic Monument in 1958 as an Archaeological Heritage and is now under management of the Sarawak Museum and the Sarawak Forest Department.

The park's main claim to fame is its role as one of the birthplaces of civilization in the region. The oldest modern human remains discovered in Southeast Asia were found at Niah, making the park one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. In 1958, a discovery was made which confirmed Niah's place as a site of major archaeological significance. Harrison and his team unearthed a skull which was estimated to be 40,000 years old.

Niah Cave is also famous for its edible bird nest found high-up in the cave which was used to be home for the prehistoric man before.  People used to collect bird nests from high in the roof of these caves clinging precariously to the bamboo pole.

Lunch at the local restaurant at Niah junction at own expenses (either before or after tour).  Return to Miri at about 5 to 6 pm depending on the walking speed.
