6D/5N Mulu + Pinnacles Adventure Package

Gunung Mulu National Park is one of Nature's most spectacular achievements and the 'jewel in the crown' of Sarawak's expanding network of national parks.
The Park is not the easiest place to get to. A maze of rivers and floodland lie between it and the coast. The boating services up the rivers have become less than reliable. Hence, a flight in a small Fokker 50 operated by MAS Wings departing from Miri, Malaysia's oil town is the most reliable way to experience Mulu. The yearly rainfall for the region is over 5 metres and this combined with limestone geology leads to the creation of caves of phenomenal dimensions. Although Mulu is synonymous with caves, the 'Mulu experience' is not limited to underground attractions; above ground there is plenty to see and do. The park is covered in rich primary rainforest and offers a whole range of nature-based activities. There are some excellent jungle treks and mountain hikes including the challenging trek to view the Pinnacles - 45 metre high, razor sharp limestone spikes that sit majestically on the slopes of Gunung Api. This dramatic stone forest is found half-way up Gunung Api which is the highest limestone mountain in Malaysia. The walk is steep the whole way up and fairly physically demanding but the scenery is good with views across to the famous Pinnacles. This tour will also take you through lowland forest in a remote area known as the 'Headhunters Trail' where in years gone by, the Kayan warriors used this route as they made their way through the jungle to invade the homeland of the Murut. Along the way your guide may show you an old head hunters skull from a cave beside the trail,You will also visit a Penan settlement, an ethnic tribe to observe their tribal lifestyle and view their handicrafts. While the Penan men hunt and gather, the Penan women would make baskets and mats to be bartered for basic needs.
Finally an experience that is very worthwhile - stay overnight in a longhouse!

Full Day Niah Cave

The park's main claim to fame is its role as one of the birthplaces of civilization in the region. The oldest modern human remains discovered in Southeast Asia were found at Niah, making the park one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. In 1958, a discovery was made which confirmed Niah's place as a site of major archaeological significance. Harrison and his team unearthed a skull which was estimated to be 40,000 years old.

Niah Cave is also famous for its edible bird nest found high-up in the cave which was used to be home for the prehistoric man before.  People used to collect bird nests from high in the roof of these caves clinging precariously to the bamboo pole.

Lunch at the local restaurant at Niah junction at own expenses (either before or after tour).  Return to Miri at about 5 to 6 pm depending on the walking speed.
